Engineering
What is Engineering? Engineering is the application of science and math to solve problems. Engineers identify and solve problems which make our lives better using a creative and iterative design process.
Engineering at Marvin Camras
Engineering at Camras is based on the 3 general guiding principles from the report on *Engineering in K-12 Education" collaborated between the National Academy of Engineering and the National Research Council's Center for Education.
Principle # 1: K-12 engineering education should emphasize engineering design.
Principle # 2: K-12 education should incorporate important and developmentally appropriate mathematics, science, and technology knowledge and skills.
Principle # 3: K-12 engineering education should promote engineering habits of mind.

Why Engineering for K-12 Students
Engineering...
- is interdisciplinary. It can be taught across all subjects: literacy, music, social studies, physical education, etc.
- incorporates the habits of mind, specifically problem solving, communication, and persistence.
- can reinforce math, science and technology.
- builds the 21st Century skills our students need.
- encourages college and career readiness by making students aware of who engineers are and what they do.
- has many similar practices that reading and math Common Core practices have.
