You will need to log in to your CPS Google account to access the Camras Staff Resources. There are specific engineering lessons & resources which incorporate our (Camras') science, technology or math curriculum. |
Engineering Habits of Mind
Engineering Habits of Mind allow engineers to routinely come up with solutions to problems or improvements to current technologies or ways of doing things.
Creativity - Using your imagination to make or see things in new or original ways.
Optimism - Believing that possibility and opportunity can be found in every challenge, and every technology can be improved.
Communication - Sharing , explaining, and talking about ideas.
Systems Thinking - Breaking apart the big idea that you’re studying and thinking about how the parts connect or relate to each other within that big idea.
Conscientiousness - Thinking about how engineering will affect people and the environment.
Collaboration - Working together to use everyone’s strengths and knowledge to solve a problem or a challenge.

Engineering Challenges |
These challenges are a good start to help students develop the Engineering Habits of Mind - Creativity, Collaboration, and Communication.

2017 Engineers Week Activity List

Marshmallow Challenge - Here's an easy low-prep activity to introduce students to engineering. It emphasizes teamwork, communication, and creativity. It is appropriate for grades K - 8 and beyond.
Towers! You can modify this challenge for the tallest structure, the strongest structure, etc. You can use toothpicks & mini-marshmallows (students love this!), straws, newspaper, paper, index cards, or even pipe cleaners! The purpose of these activities is for them to work in teams, to think creatively, and to problem solve. You can also modify it for math - can they create a triangular prism? Rectangular prism?
